Bahia Steel History and activity
In 1988, during a trip in Brazil with some friends, Philippe Woehling discovered the Oficina de Investigaçao Musical (Musical research Institute). In this nice house located in the historical center of Salvador da Bahia, various activities take place, such as : manufacture of traditional afro-Brazilian percussion, educational work with street kids and organizing of cultural events in the percussion aera. A real thunderbolt! Philippe decided to quit computer business and to create in France Bahia Steel, a support organization to OIM in Brazil. Bahia Steel focuses on selling handcrafted instruments from Brazil, organizing music shows and art-exhibitions as well as percussion workshops dedicated to kids.
The creation of Bahia Steel Ltd in 2000 as percussion importer and distributor, illustrates the will to focus on one activity only. At the start specialist of Brazilian percussion, Bahia Steel recently built strong relatioship with new partners and expanded its products ranges to become a real ethnical percussion distributor on a European scale.
